Based in Haltwhistle, the company design hardware and software for growing North East businesses including Tharsus and Turbo Power Systems, as well as overseas clients including the UN.
Peter Hawkin, CEO at Evolto, initially met with Terry McStea, Head of Design Network North at RTC North in pursuit of increased brand awareness and ideas to help maintain a steady stream of clients.
Evolto were delighted to learn that because of their effective electronic components, businesses were benefitting from a subsequent boost in productivity. However, clients experiencing such growth were then able to recruit their own in-house technician which highlighted a problem for Peter and his team.
Due to such appointments, the issue with securing ongoing support contracts was apparent and obtaining a more reliable pipeline of clients became a key focus.
Considering potential avenues to extend their service, Peter broached the idea of adding a small-scale production capability to the business to allow for short runs of a few hundred PCBs for clients. Due to the nature of such a large investment, the team were keen to firstly assess the local demand.
As Network Manager, Terry suggested leveraging his established network relationships to branch out to a selection of businesses for honest feedback.
The general response from businesses reaffirmed that not only would the manufacturing facility be of benefit to several of the connections, but introductions, regardless of which, would be actively encouraged.
“The team helped us to understand whether other manufacturers and product design agencies across the North would see any benefit in having access to our proposed addition, this has given us a lot more confidence and market knowledge as we go forward. We have also been introduced to a number of potential clients and partners through this process.”
In addition to tapping into local networks, Peter has been regularly attending Rise and Design events, meeting and forming new relationships with prospective clients with a fresh perspective in mind for future plans.
“Supply chains are all about relationships, and through our network we were able to help Evolto gain some valuable insights into what businesses are looking for, and hopefully foster some new relationships”, said Terry.
