Meet the Team - Andy Brown

Andy Brown is a business advisor at Supply Chain North East which brings together four key partners to work with over 800 businesses through to 2021, supporting them to identify opportunities in new and existing markets. An integral part of the North East Growth Hub, Supply Chain North East is delivered across the region by RTC North, Generator, North East Automotive Alliance (NEAA) and North East Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC).

What’s a typical day on Supply Chain North East?

A typical day involves, a mix of client meetings, and report writing. Client meetings are all about getting to understand the business what they do and identifying where we can help. So, asking lots of questions and most importantly LISTENING are critical parts of my role.

Once you have gathered the information the next job is to get this into some kind of format to develop a diagnostic and action plan which allows us to plan out a plan to assist the business to develop, move forward and grow.

What is typical in a business’s supply chain that you want to help them fix?

There is never a typical ‘fix’ for a business, but issues about process improvement, developing new markets or improving the ones they already have always come up.

We have loads of amazing businesses in the North East of England but a lot of them are not great at telling people about themselves, so marketing is always high on the agenda!

What is your background experience?

I spent 18  years working for a high street bank, the last eight of those as a business manager, for the last 17 years I have worked in the world of business support, working with a number of organisations including, BusinessLink, NBSL, Growth Accelerator and of course RTC North.

What are the values that drive you?

My core values are all amount adding value to the businesses I am working with, and fundamentally to help grow the North East economy.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

I’m a keen music fan so out of work, you’ll find me going to a gig or digging about looking for vinyl bargains or that elusive record to complete my collection.

Supply Chain North East is a multimillion programme aimed at revolutionising the way SMEs diversify their offering and embrace new markets. The programme has received more than £3m of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund, which is part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
